David Kellett I’ve listened to this new Ken Martin album many times since I bought it on the day it came out but I still don’t quite know how to describe it. Maybe it’s because I’m eavesdropping on an organ’s dream, that it is so hard to translate the feeling this music gives me into an English description.

The organ drones form a back drop over and through which float strange bubbling, cycling, abstract sounds. String synthesiser type sounds hover through the audio space with occasional low key rhythmic elements which sound half sequencer and half burbling bubble.

The music is beautiful and timeless. If I was going to make comparisons with anyone else’s music I’d say the early organ based music of Klaus Schulze meeting his later Picture Music / Blackdance phase. But I would stress that Orgel Traum is very much it’s own beautiful self. It is very much an original creation - yes it pays homage to KS but Ken has his own unique voice and musical language.

I can’t set a “favourite track” as I think they are all brilliant.

If you like Berlin School or the deeper, meditational end of Kraut Rock you should definitely hear and then buy this.
